What Could Severe Nose Blockage In Infants Suggest?

My 12 week old baby was born with a blocked up nose and has had one ever since. She has so far failed 4 hearing tests and we are just waiting for an appointment to see another doctor at hospital. Do you think she is deaf or do you think she has a blockage somewhere?

Hi,

It is common for babies to have some nasal stuffiness / blockage. If no discharge or foul smelling, and no difficulty in breathing or feeding, we need not worry. Instil saline nasal drops when needed. Occasionally this might cause Eustachian tube dysfunction, leading to hearing impairment.

Repeated failed test (I guess it was OAE test) definitely needs detailed evaluation with BERA testing without any delay. Kindly consult an ENT specialist, who can look for any anatomical causes of nasal obstruction and evaluate hearing.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
