What Could Shooting Pain In Wrist With Swollen Vein Around The Thumb Indicate?
Hi, about a year ago I fell and had a suspected scafoid fracture in wrist (did not show up on X-ray), was given splint and asked to return the following week however wrist was fine. A few months later I was lifting at work and started to get shooting pains in my wrist followed by numbness this continued for several months before I went to doctor who suspected carpal tunnel and gave me anti inflammatory s, this did help however the pain was still there when lifting and also at night shooting numbness pain in my arm. Then last week someone twisted my wrist and I immediately had to stop what I was doing as I was in so much pain my wrist was like pulsating and had this warm feeling going up my arm. It s now a week on and whenever I lift anything I m having to put it down as I m getting this stretching/hot feeling shooting up my arm and have noticed a small lump on a vein just down from thumb on my wrist. Was back at doctors today she is sending me for an X-ray just to check in the next week! Any advice on what this could be? I have full movement in my wrist however when I move my wrist in a circular motion this is when it is sore along with when I lift things.
There is definitely restricted movements of wrist in concern with tissue insult from previous trauma. The most common possibility is ligament stein, sprain or post traumatic inflammatory changes and usually X-ray does not reveal any significant changes in most instances. In my clinic, I do recommend an MRI examination of the wrist to get much finer and precise details of underlying structures and problems.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
