What Could Sudden Loss Of Ability To Taste Sweet While Being On Co-reg, Rythmal, Allopurinol, Lipitor Indicate?

hello dr. I am 63 years old and suddenly since Christmas I have loss the ability to taste anything sweet. I take co-reg and rythmal but have been taking those for years with no problem. I also take allopurinol and never had an issue. I am pre-diabetic and my a1c has dropped from 8.5 to 6.2 in 6 months due to my efforts and a very light pre-diabetic medicine. I also take Lipitor and my numbers are very good with cholesterol at 189 but my triglycerides vary from 333 to 444. I am concerned about this. it has changed my life

Hi.Thanks for writing on HCM.
I am glad to know that your sugars and lipids are under control.
Dysgeusia(altered taste sensation) is seen in 0.5% of the individuals taking Allopurinol, 0.3% of the individuals taking Co-reg, 1.3% of the individuals taking Rythmol. This can be a side effect of any of these 3 drugs and is pretty difficult to attribute the cause.Hope I have answered your query.
