What Could The Bump On The Finger Of A Child Be?

My 4 yr old son has a bad habit of grabbing my fingers and twisting sometimes when he wants to take me and show me something. Last week before leaving on vacation he did this and I heard my finger crack. Now everytime some hits it it hurts. there's a bump on the joint before the end of my finger and if I touch it hurts. I'm wondering if he finally broke my pinky?
