What Could The Reason Be For My Child's Hand Be Smaller?

My son is born on 32 weeks and in an incubator for 4 weeks. Medics drew blood from his left pulse just above his hand. This particular hand is somewhat smaller than the right hand and defect. What could the reason be for his smaller hand? and could this be heritable
