My INR was 4.1 Order was do not take Coumadin for 2 nights continue with 4.o mg. of Coumadin. and repeat INR test in one week . Should I keep taking 4 mg of Coumadin. Seems 4 too high. I don't get results for two days after the blood is drawn. What foods should I avoid. Which foods have High Vit. K ? Thank you How low should INR be for normal and safe avoiding clots? I Am very confused . Please Help My E Mail YYYY@YYYY
Dear friend , i have read your query ... to prevent clot formation INR should be >1.2 (normal INR 1.0) .. but if it is too high(>2.5-3) there will be chances of internal bleeding /stroke.. hence monitoring INR is very important for adjusting the oral anticoagulant dose.. may be with the consultation of your treating doctor you need to reduce the dose of coumadin but not to take your own decission. moreover, you cannot even stop taking this medicines also... by the way vit K is rich in green leafy vegetables , alfalfa plant is the richest source ... take care do write us for further queries ... THANK YOU
