You must take plenty of fluids to keep well-hydrated and also as a remedy for treating UTI. You can have fruit juices like pomegranate juice, citrus juices, lemon water with added sugar or
glucose, glucose water, coconut water,
barley water and soymilk. You can have milk, buttermilk or milkshakes but only after fever and
diarrhea subsides as milk doesn't get digested easily during fever and
diarrhoea. Cranberry juice is effective for treating UTI, so you can have it daily, but make sure you take your medications also as cranberry juice is not a substitute for medicines. If diarrhoea and
vomiting has subsided, and you are able to tolerate a
liquid diet, then you can gradually introduce semi solid foods like porridges made of oats/oat bran, semolina (suji in hindi), khichri, well-cooked pulse and rice, boiled potatoes, ripe bananas, soft cheese or paneer made at home.
Avoid anything raw or outside food as hygiene standards of food prepared by vendors and local eateries is dubious. Avoid fried, oily and spicy food and prefer small frequent feedings to avoid taxing already weakened digestive system. Practice good personal hygiene by washing hands frequently with a soap, before eating and after using the toilet.
Make sure you consume all food and drinks prepared hygienically at home as
Typhoid can recur due to poor hygiene practices.
If you cook food at home, then wash hands with a soap properly before preparation and keep your nails well-trimmed as typhoid patients become carrier of the disease for a considerable period of time.
Hope this will guide you in managing your health.
