Hello,

If his appetite is normal and his blood sugars are under control, he can continue on the same type of food he has been taking. Typhoid normally does not require any special diet. During infections there is a tendency for blood sugars to go up so you should check the sugar more often preferably fasting and two hours after lunch.
As you might know people with diabetes should restrict the amount of carbohydrates they eat and eat them mainly as complex carbohydrates like whole grain foods, pulses, vegetables and not as refined or simple sugars. White bread, cornflakes etc can raise blood sugars. If he likes he can have oats, corn, millet etc. He may have egg, fish, chicken or lean meat if he is non vegetarian.
I wish your father a fast recovery and if you have any concerns you are welcome to get back to me.
