What Do Elevated Bone Resorption Markers Indicate?

I have taken fosomax for 3 years, then a break then actenol for 3 years and have been on a two year break. Bone density has not changed but bone resorption markers have gone up some (34). MD now wants to put me on prolia. Since I have never had a fracture is this necessary?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It could be due to osteoarthritis.

We have to rule out other possibilities like metastasis also.

Consult an orthopedician and plan for a bone scan.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
