What Do Pain And Contractions In The Abdomen Indicate?

My 20 year old son went to our doctor today with pain and contractions with, what we know now, might be an enlarged speen. He is scheduled for an unltrasound tomorrow morning. His pain is getting worse and his contractions are occurring more frequently. He was prescribed nausea medicine by our doctor. The contractions are happening often but not on a timed basis. At what point do I, if at all, take him to the hospital?
