What Do Pain And Pressure In The Chest Indicate?

I have been having pressure in my chest off and on for a couple weeks. The other day I had really bad chest pain in the middle of my chest. It went away after a few hours, and water did seem to help. I had a Drs. Appt today but my doctor was out sick. I just took a nexium to see if that would help. I really don’t want to go to the hospital if it is just germ. I have never been diagnosed with any stomach or heart problems. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Please mention your age also because that is also important for us. You should rule out cardiac pathology and if you are young it's likely to be GERD. You have not mentioned whether Nexium worked or not.
That would also help us to guide you in the right direction. If it helps, acid reflux is more likely than cardiac issues. If you are aged, check BP,ECG and cardiac markers.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
