What Do Swelling And Pain In The Cheeks Indicate?

Our neighbor friend age about 65 is having severe swelling and pain in the cheek of his mouth. He went to a dentist and dentist said he may have irritated it with a food particle and gave him an antibiotic. It is only getting worse. What can be the cause?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Severe swelling and pain in cheek can be due to causes like deep tooth Infection, traumatic injury to the cheek, cellulitis that is soft tissue Infection or facial space Infection..

So my suggestion is to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated..

You can be advised x ray or CT SCAN to rule out the exact cause..

For now continue to take antibiotics, take anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen and do cool compresses over the swelling..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
