Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Do Swelling And Pain In The Knees And Lower Legs Indicate?
Have a friend, diabetic, 1/2 lung, and has the cold/flu that is going round, but has been on antibotiacs for two weeks, and how his knee is swollen, and has gone down to his foot, and cant put any weight on it because it is too painful. Think I should take him to ER?
We do not know whether knee swelling is unilateral or bilateral. If it is bilateral, then it could be due to cardiac origin also so please kindly take him for examination with the nearest doctor.
If it is unilateral we need to think of that it could be either infectious inflammatory or due to disuse hampering of the circulation of that limb.
If there is any trivial trauma which has caused that type of problem, then anti-inflammatory and antibiotics can be prescribed for the treatment.
If it is due to hampering of circulation, then ask them to put leg compression stockings which can improve the circulation. Warm water hot massages and oil massages can also help.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Archana
