General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I am sorry for the problems your friend is having.

Her symptoms of fluctuating joint swelling and pain are suggestive of arthritis attack. She should see a rheumatologist as soon as possible.

Blood tests recommended to evaluate her health problems:
- complete blood count
- CRP
- rheumatoid arhritis factor
- antistreptolysins
- x-ray of the joint

Until she consults with the doctor, she should apply cold compresses locally (on the joints); take oral anti-inflammatory meds found over the counter (ibuprofen, naproxen) and apply anti-inflammatory cream locally (on the joints).

Wish fast recovery.
