General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The hardness may be due to fibrosis or scarring of the area, this means that even if the infection has resolved there may be residual swelling.

It would be best to see your doctor so that the area can be properly incised and drained, this would reduce the chance that there is remaining distortion/hardness of the area.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
