What Does A Discolored, Bumpy Mole On Kneecap Causing Stinging Pain When Touched Suggest?

Hey there. I have a question regarding a small bump on the right side of my left kneecap. I m not exactly sure if it s just a bump or a mole. It s the size of the eraser of a pencil, I guess. It appeared around two years ago. I m thinking that it s just a regular mole, but I can t be so sure. It stings whenever it gets touched suddenly or like when I m touching it with my nail. If I m just pressing down on it with the pads of my fingers, it doesn t hurt at all. When it gets touched suddenly, the hurt is quite too much, not too much I guess but I often stop walking or stop doing what I m currently doing because it hurts too much. The color of the mole is quite darker compared to the skin around it. Is it dangerous?

Hi,

A bumpy regular mole, which is not increasing in size and not changing its texture, is more likely to be harmless. However, presence of cancerous growth should be always kept in mind. Any asymmetrical mole with crenated edges, a bumpy and / or rough feeling to touch, hard lump, a mole increasing in size, possible areas of tan, brown, black, red, blue or white and sometimes the changing colors and uneven surface may be signs of a melanoma and need to be confirmed / ruled out by a biopsy of the lesion.
