Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello,
A pea sized mass in the neck is likely to be a lymph node. If it is painful to touch, it could be inflammed and may need analgesic and antibiotic. If it hurts when moving the neck, it could be a muscle spasm which feels like a taut cord. You have not mentioned where in the neck this swelling is. Hence it is difficult to hazard a guess without knowing the location. Kindly consult your pediatrician for a local examination.
