Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello Dr. Andrew, Few days ago, a boil formed near the anus. It got so big and hurt so bad. I experienced pain for a few days and then it popped. Then, the day after, another one formed. I ve been reading online about anal abscesses, their causes and treatment. One article suggested that these ointments can relieve the pain and help treat the boils: Fusidic acid, Gentamicin, Mupirocin. Also, I read that antibiotics can help as well. Should I apply one of these ointments? would they help?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Boil formed near anal region is due to infection of underneath tissue of the skin. You can apply Fuscidic acid or Mupirocin cream over the affected region. Kindly take sitz bath twice daily. Also, keep the area under good hygiene by cleansing with mild antiseptic solution like Savlon before application of cream. In case it doesn't get better by 3 days, you need to consult Surgeon for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
