What Does A Painful Lump Around A Nexplanon Insertion Site Indicate?

I recently got the nexplanon implant (July 10), and a day after the steri strips came off. I put a bandaid on it and hopped in the shower. After this I started getting a lump that was painful however I thought nothing of it. I thought it was the healing process. 2 days ago, i accidentally rubbed the lump as I was getting dressed and pus started coming out. The lump went down and hurts less but it doesn t feel right. What do I do????

Hello,
Thanks for the query.
As per your description it seems like the implant got infected.
It has to be removed and re inserted after the infection has settled. You have to start a short course of antibiotics like amoxicillin/clavulanate combination after discussing with your gynaecologist.
As of now you can take back up contraceptives like condoms.
Wishing you good health.
Thanks
