What Does A Painful Sore On Knees Indicate When Suffering From Osteoarthritis?

I'm diabetic and also have Rheumatoid, Psoriatic & Osteoarthritis. A "dime" size sore appeared on my right knee on Feb 3rd and it looked like my skin had sloughed off and was very painful. I've made sure to keep the area clean and continually apply Neosporin on it. After a few days it changed in appearance to look like a blister and it started oozing a brownish yellow liquid. I would clean it with Hydrogen Peroxide and cover it with Neosporin and several bandaids. My entire right knee feels like it is infected and is really painful to bend it - I am used to stiffness with my arthritis but this feel more pronounced. I started using Fluocinonide (my psoriasis creme) and it is drying up the fluid in it but it is turning purple and is still extremely sensitive. It has not itched or burned like Ringworm or MRSA - just painful and my knee feel infected since the sore appeared. Your thoughts please ......

Hello

I have studied your case

All your symptoms suggest systemic infection leading to septic arthritis and secondary superadded infection.

For infection we can start antibiotic regime and look for results.
To diagnose septic arthritis look for local raised temperature, severe pain, pain on joint movement, fever.

You may need to investigate in form of complete blood count, ESR, CRP
So I will advise you to consult a specialist and do required investigation.
Avoid experiment with wound.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care
