What Does An Elevated Sedimentation Rate Indicate?

my 3 and 1/2 year old niece has had a low grade fever and fatigue and headaches for about 6 days. She does not have a flu, she does not have obvious symptoms of a common cold. The dr had blood work done today. White blood cells are fine but there was an elevated SED rate. Dr is having her do a chest xray to see if she might have a pneumonia with no symptoms.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As the ESR is high , the doctor wants to check for any pneumonia as other tests have come normal. So chest X-ray was advised and it is general practice along with urine test in such cases.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
