What Does Blisters On Tongue Of Child When On Penicillin Suggest?
Hi my 13 month old daughter has been given penicillin for a throat infection, however she has some white blisters on her tongue and one on her lip and her gums bleed occasionally she had a fever that is now gone after the antibiotics have started to kick in, but I am concerned about the mouth still.
The symptoms you mention in query are most likely to be oral thrush , which appear when on antibiotics . Oral thrush is an infection in the mouth caused by a fungus, which can cause a coated or white tongue and areas of soreness. There are some other reasons also like weekend immunity , poor oral hygiene and some underlying condition.
If it persist even after discontinuation of penicillin then then consult pedodontist for proper examination to find out exact cause and rule out condition like viral infection and pemphigus vulgaris .
Doctor may prescribe anti fungal drugs topical/oral for 5-7 days along with anti inflammatory drugs .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
