What Does Blood In Stool Indicate?

I am a caregiver of a 91 year old woman. She has been battling loose stools for a week in a half. Today she had a soft bm and bright red blood in her stool. Do I need to get her to the hospital? She has a visiting doctor coming next Thurs can it wait. Thanks

Hello,

It might be hemorrhoid or anal fistula or something else. I would suggest you go to a doctor because losing blood can cause her anemia. The doctor will visit and give treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anila Skenderi
