What Does Blood In Urine Indicate When There Are No Other Symptoms?
I am 50 years old. I have tested for trace blood in my urine since college (25 RBC per UL). My mother (88 yrs old) has always had tested for trace blood in the urine and my sister (54 years old) has always tested for trace blood as well. I have zero symptoms of anything. No fever, no red look to my urine, no pain, steady stream, no frequent urination, nothing. I have been given 2 prostate exams, 3 blood tests and now am scheduled for a CT scan and they want to stick a probe up me to see my bladder. Is this all really necessary especially since I have a very long history of this. What is considered HIGH RBC per UL? Is it considered high by medical standards? Can this just be hereditary.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Please note that 25 RBC is high. Even though you have family history without symptoms, you should be properly investigated as there may be some hereditary family disease. You should go for CT scan and cystoscopy. I will recommend renal biopsy as well. Please let the diagnosis be done. These tests will cause you no harm.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Varinder Joshi
