hi dear doctor my 58 year old mother , after 2 tests of urinalysis was seen blood , in first test was seen 18-20 RBC in her urine , and in second test was seen 4-5 RBC , with the decrease in WBC . her sonography of renal and pelvic report was normal in all details what is your opinion about this matter ? does it any problem with my mom ? thanks
Hi There are multiple causes of the presence of RBC in urine. The normal practice in the UK is to offer ultrasound of the urinary tract and cystoscopy apart from urine routine analysis and blood test for kidney function- creatinine. If these are normal then my advice would be to see a nephrologist.
If she is diabetic, have high blood pressure or taking any medications affecting kidneys then that can itself be the cause of RBC in urine but it becomes mandatory to do all the above tests in her age.
