What Does Bloody Stools Suggest?

Hi i'm just 14 years old and under gone an operation last December 2010. I'm alright now. But this past few days i just notice bright red blood in my stool. Is it serious?? I'm not yet telling my mom because I don't want her to worry because she's not here in my country right now. I wish it's not serious.
