What Does Clumpy Dark Brown Urine With Tinge Of Red While Having Cancer Mean?

My mother has metastatic breast cancer which has recently spread throughout her bones, stomach and intestines. She had a foley put in three days ago. Her urine was clear, however, this early morning, it was dark brown with a tinge of red and had pea size clumps that were dark brown and soft. What can this mean?

Hi,

I am sorry for the situation your mother is in.

Inserting Foley catheter is associated with side effects like bleeding. the dark brakon urine with a tinge of red and pea size clumps are suggestive for bleeding (urethral or bladder).

I advise to talk with the doctor who put Foley catheteter for further evaluation and to decide if the catheter should be removed or not.

All the best!
