What Does Dark Brown Color In Vomit Indicate?

My husband has been under a lot of stress because of work. On a few occasions lately he has coughed so hard he has vomited. This morning he really threw-up (with-out coughing). It was dark brown and looked gritty. Any thoughts on what that might be?

I really appreciate your concern, what the vomiting color you observed may not be due to any disease or illness but it seems to be the stress condition that might be causing the coughing forceful action else it is nothing to worry, allergic condition needs to be ruled out too.
