What Does Dilated Biliary Duct Indicate?

Dr. Narasi I had a catscan several weeks ago the urologist told me 7/18/14 that the scan showed I have a Dilated biliary duct.I do not have a gallbladder.The urologist is sending me to a surgeon/oncologist.I have some bloating.I am concerned, what can I expect? Thank you.

Hi thanks for contacting health care magic.

Noted you have dilated bile duct .
So for that yes consultation to surgeon is done.....here are few possibilities....

First it can be dilatation from stone like choledocolithiasis...that is stone in bile duct.

Second if infection or inflammation present in bile duct like cholangitis that also can lead dilation...Some time infection might be parasitic apart from pyogenic....

Finally if weight loss , anorexia like symptoms present rule out malignancy like cholangiocarcinoma can lead dilatation of bile duct.....

USG. And ERCP like detailed investigation needed...
