What Does Endometrial Lining Thickness Mean?

I am 48 year old. I have enlarged, tilted uterus with thick lining. This was examined with pelvic ultrasound and vaginal probe in January of this year. I have had 3 periods since then. One in Jan, then Feb, then April and recently last month on August 17th. I went for another pelvic ultrasound and probe test. The technician told me that there was thickening of the endomyterial lining as compared to last test. What does that mean? I have no symptoms. The period in April was heavy and painful, lasted almost 12 days. The one last month was normal. Thanks.

Hi,
As you seem to have entered peri-menopause, this endometrial thickening is more likely to be due to the delayed cycles, wherein the excessive estrogen activity causes building up of excessive endometrial lining. If, the thickening has been noticed soon after a period, this calls for further investigation. A hormonal profile and an endometrial biopsy are needed. It is also advisable to get a pap smear done at the same time. Hope you find this information useful. Wish you good health.
