What Does Greenish Colored Loose Stools Indicate?

Dear Sir,I am getting greenish coloured slightly loose motion for the last 8 - 9 months. Earlier I used to have constipation all the time, with thick hard stool & anus used to rapture several times leading to bleeding. I haven t used any medicines for this. How can this change without any medicine? Also there is a decrease in my general health & weight as well without any exercise or diet control. In addition to this I am not getting proper sleep for last one year. I am a Pure vegetarian. Don t take tea, coffee & cold drinks, alcohols etc. Was detected with prostate problem 2 years back. The warts present in my body are becoming more & more distinct day by day & their nos are also increasing very rapidly. I am having acidity proble for last 7 - 8 years. The problem gets easily aggravated on sudden exposure to heat, travelling & eating even slightly fried foods. What could be the cause of this?S. Mallick, Male, Age-47 years

Hi,
Welcome to HCM.

Eating spinach might cause slightly greenish stools but as you said you had a green colored stool loose motions since 8-9 months.

It can occur in various conditions like excess unprocessed bile (which is to be digested by certain enzymes) or iron supplements,or iron rich diet, celiac disease or Protozoa infestation etc

You need to see physician and get your stool R/M examination done.

It is quite possible to get cured from constipation or bleeding in stool because it might be due to fissure which might get healed by itself without medications.

Continue to take healthy foods with high vegetables which will improve our overall health.

Take anti-anxiety drug to have adequate sleep in night time but you will need prescription from some local doctor or GP for that.

Seek help from urologist for your prostate issue and take appropriate medications for it.

For acidity, you can take antacids like h2 blockers (ranitidine) or proton pump inhibitors (pantoprazole or rabeprazole) will help to reduce excess acid production in stomach.

You can also take digene gel or liquid or ulcero-protective agents like sucralfate or bismuth subsallicylate to reduce the burning sensation.

Apart from medications you should,

1) eat plain foods like boiled rice and green leafy vegetables without adding spices or oil. It will help to neutriluze digestive acids and also they are easily digestible means there will be no need of extra stomach acid.

2) avoid oily, spicy and fast foods

3) avoid eating full stomach at a time rather have small meals frequently.

4) drink coconut water will help to reduce burning.

5) eat lots of fruits like banana and watermelon.

Hope all your questions are answered.

Regards,
