What Does Immunoglobulin Count Of 138 In A Child Suggest?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here... Hello, My son is about 2 Yrs 10 months suffring from severe cough fro past 2 months. Consulted ENT specialist & it has been diagnosed as a Asthama with a Imunogobulin counting to 138. Pls let me know is it correct

Hi,

It would depend on the specifics of the lab. First, it matters which immunoglobulin there are several types. If it is total immunoglobulin that seems like a normal number if it is just the type associated with asthma (Immunglobulin E) then it seems like a high number BUT different labs use different numbers and have different numbers for the normal range. You cannot diagnose asthma with immunoglobulin level in any case. AND if there is asthma and if the immunoglobulin E level is high there is a new drug that is quite good at just stopping the IgE and the asthma.
