What Does Insomnia Along With Fatigue And Appetite Loss Indicate?

Hi. I m a 60 year old woman and retred about 9 months ago. Since then, i have lost about 14 pounds without trying (although i have always worked out 3 times a week). I went from about 127 to about 114, which is a lit for a 4 11 person. I had no other symptoms, and did not even notice this for a long time. i had no other symptoms besides tiredness, which may have just been from insomnia, and from caring for my mother and husband. In the past few months, however, i started losing my appetite, but not always. My sense of smell also diminished. Also, its a weird thing, but i notice that my poop floars now! Other than that, I m fine. What do you think?

Dear,
What you describe me are some of the most common symptoms of depression. It is usually associated with retirement, and the fact that your whole life style changes, feeling of purpose and everyday occupations.
Loss of appetite, insomnia, loss of interest on things you used to like a lot, sometimes guilt, tiredness, loss of concentration etc are some of the symptoms. Diminished smell may be part of these as well.
I would recommend to start finding new hobbies and to engage in everyday activities that give you purpose and meaning.
The concern about your poop floating is not connected with the other symptoms. It may be due to a change in diet, anxiety or even some bug. I would recommend you to do a stool exam and visit a gastroenterologist about this.
If the depression symptoms don't get better, please visit a therapist.
Wish you the best,
Manoku Eni M.D.
