What Does Intermittent Episodes Of Blood In Urine Indicate?

I had a very short intermittent episode of very small (pin head) blood in my urine (3 times total). Has been 8 days since last occurrence, Urine sample showed some red blood cells. GP wants me to see urologist. This GP had me go through many cardio scans a year ago due to my EKG, which the cardiologist said was normal. So I am a little leery that she is over cautious. What can I be looking at?
