What Does Irritable Bowel Syndrome Suggest?

I just had a EGD done last week. I just received a letter from my doctor with the results. It states that there was no evidence of celiac disease. My symptoms are functional and that I likely need a lot of reassurance. It says to look up terms "irritable bowel syndrome" and "functional". What exactly could this all mean?

Hi,

Irritable bowel syndrome means that you have a condition in which your intestines can go into a certain spasm and this can result in either constipation or diarrhoea. you can also have normal bowel motion and it can be associated with abdominal pain.
the term functional means that there is no organic evidence that they found and the symptoms are due to the function of intestine.
irritable bowel syndrome is common these days among people and is usually caused by stress.
try to exercise 30 minutes daily for 5 times a week.
if you have any stress issues try to work on that and maintain a healthy sleep pattern.
I would also advise you to take peppermint tablet 3 times daily for 4 weeks.
if you have more questions you can get back to me.

wishing you a good health and I hope you feel better

Regards
