What Does Light Spotting Post Menopause Indicate?

Hi I am 7 years post menopause and have had very light spotting recently. Gyn (an np) attempted a endometrial biopsy but cervix not cooperating. T/V ultrasound was "normal"; not thick. Spotting stopped for a few days but has resumed - very light. I am seeing my regular gyn on Friday. I asked np if she could order the script for the softening med so I could take it before I go for visit on Friday, hoping to get the biopsy. She said lets wait and see what gyn thinks. I want the biopsy and cant see a reason to wait. From the usual list of risk factors : I am overweight ( now 165 lbs but a year ago 30 lb heavier), started menses at age 10, on pill for about 15 years, no history to my knowledge, prehypertensive but much improved since weight lose. Is there any reason not to get the biopsy? Thank you!

Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern. In the current scenario, you will be evaluated by your gynecologist before deciding on the need for the biopsy, which would be put off for a later visit. A pap smear, swabs from the vagina and cervix can be helpful. An endometrial biopsy may be attempted under anesthesia to allow dilatation of the cervix to allow instrumentation. I would follow this procedure if I were to treat you. It should be seen where the source of the spotting is. Atrophy of the vaginal walls also can cause such spotting. Hope you find this information useful. Take care.
