What Does Loose, Thick, Creamy Stools In A Child With Test Showing Presence Of Yeast And Bacteria Mean?
Hi, My baby of 1yr and 4mos has pooped 5 times today, and has been pooping at least 3 times for the last 5 days. The stool consistency is like thick, creamy soup, with little to no solid poop. We had fecalysis of her latest stool, and everything is within normal EXCEPT YEAST and bacteria which is indicated as MANY. What does this mean? We cannot contact her pediatrician at the moment and we are getting anxious. Please advise.
Hi, Thank you for asking question on health care magic. Presence of yeast on microscopic examination of stool suggests fungal diarrhea. Fungal diarrhea occurs in immuno compromised conditions as well as prolonged use of antibiotics. Stoppage of antibiotics and treatment with antifugal agents will improve the situation. Hope this answer will serve your purpose Please feel free to ask any more queries if required Take care Dr.M.V.Subrahmanyam MD;DCH Associate professor of pediatrics
