What Does Microcytic Hypochromic RBCs With Moderate Anisocytosis Mean?

Hello! Doctor,
This is regarding my 6 mth old son, who has been reported to be anemic (Hb-5.7g/dl; RBCs (3.60 milli/cumm) are microcytic hypochromic with moderate anisocytosis).
Fe: 24 ug/dL; TIBC: 549 ug/dL; Retic Count: 1.5%; MCV: 60.3 fl; MCH 15.0 pg; RDW: 26.8% Hb A0: 79.3; A2: 2.2; HbF: 2.9; HbS: 0.0; C-0.0; D: 0.0; E: 0.0; Unknown: 0.6

Your son has IRON DEFICIENCY ANAEMIA the diagnosis is supported by low hemoglobin with low MCV,MCH and high RDW HbA2, HbF are normal while Fe is very low at 24 ug/dL and TIBC is high 549 ug/dL.

It is very common in infants especially those who drink only cow's milk.You must consult a pediatrician to rule out any loss of blood in body,and for oral iron drops in proper dosage.
