What Does Missing Muscle And Little Cartilage In Hand/wrist Indicate?

i have been to a hand doctor about my hands, im missing muscle in my thumbs an have very little cartilage in my wrist. My doctor doesnt know what it is, an has never seen anything like it. Ive had this hand/wrists problem all my life and its getting worse. what could it be?
