What Does My Knee MRI Report Indicate?

Just received knee MRI report - my dr is out for 6 days and I need to know what s going on. 1. Mod size knee joint effusion. 2. Grade 2 chondromalacia of medial and lateral patellar cartilage. 3. Mod amt of fluid in inter condylar notch surrounding anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments. 4. Grade2 menus all degeneration in posterior horn of medial meniscus. 5. Chondral fissuring involving middle 1/3 of medial femoral condyle. 6. A few degenerative subchindral cysts in mid tibial plateau measuring 1 to 3 mm surrounded by mild patchy bone marrow edema. Any thoughts? Anything requiring possible surgery? Have vacation planned 1 week away...

Hi,Thanks for your query. After going through your query I came to know that your knee MRI shows that you are having moderate amount of fluid in your joint. There are softening of cartilage knee cap. There are moderate amount of degeneration changes are seen in medial meniscus. There is a fissure in the cartilage of medial femoral condyle .There are degenerative changes are there in medial tibial condyle. I think all these changes are age related to degenerative changes. At present I think no surgery is required except aspirations of joint fluid if it is causing problems. You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it. I do hope that you have found something helpful. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries. Wishing you good health. Take care.
