What Does My Tsh Count Indicate?

I am twenty years old and I have a small lump on my neck had an ultrasound done and they said the right side thyroid has a small growth. And tsh count of .072. I'm extremely worried that it can be thyroid cancer. They said they'll keep monitoring it and I have a blood test for February 2012.

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I read your query and understood your concern.

In your situation the ultrasound of the thyroid gland gives important information regarding to the thyroid nodule.

If the nodule is small (
A scintiscan may be requested but it depends on the dimensions the nodule.

If you prescribe it as a relatively big nodule and your doctor suggested follow up, probably it didn't have suspicious elements in ultrasound ( is just a cystic nodule) and there is nothing to worry about. Anyway a follow up ultrasound is suggested.
Hope the information will help.

Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
