What Does Nitrates In Urine Test Of A 2 Year Old Indicate?

My 2 year old has been suffering with abdominal pain and wind for well over a year now and we finally got an appointment at the hospital two weeks ago. While there they took a sample of his urine and sent it away to be tested. I recieved a letter this morning saying that the test showed nitrites in his urine and that they has sent the speciman for culture. I am now even more worried, what does this mean? Please help.

hello and thnx for your query
is there any difficulty or burning sensation during urinatio.A positive nitrite test indicates that the cause of the urinary tract infection (UTI) is a gram negative organism, most commonly Escherichia coli (E.Coli) that ll be confirmed in culture.antibiotics can be given, typically a cephalosporin like cefixime or cefalexin.normally children with uncomplicated UTI can be treated for 7 days.
hope this ans helps

Regards
