What Does No Reaction To VDRL And A Result Of 1/80 In TPHA Mean?

Hello, In the previous month I ve donated blood and they send me a letter saying I was positive for syphilis with reaction to IgG. My doctor told me to do more exams and there was no reaction to VDRL and a result of 1/80 in TPHA. What does this mean? Thanks

Hi,

Suspicious of syphilis. A non-reactive VDRL and and 1:80 TPHA is suggestive of syphilis. However, you need to have two additional blood tests like Treponema pallidum immobilization (TPI) assay and Fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption test (FTA-abs) to confirm the diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
