What Does Pain In Left Shoulder And Arm Indicate?

Hello - my question is regarding pain in my left shouldar and arm. It's not really a tingling sinsation; although often times I have to continue to rub both of my hands because it feels like they've fallen asleep. Is this a sign of a heart attack? My left arm really hurts when trying to lift it and especially at night.
