What Does Pain In The Hips On The Right Side Indicate?

I have been having pain in my right hip area fro several years. I have pretty much ignored it because it used to come only twice a year and then go away after a day or two. Lately it has become much more frequent, occurring almost every day. It only hurts when I walk and some times I can walk all day (or even jog) without a problem. Other times I can walk 20 steps without a pain, and then it all of a sudden hurts again. What could this be?
