What Does Pain In The Inner Cheek Area Indicate?

Hi.. I have been having pain in my innercheek area on both sides for a couple of weeks.. that has re-occured off and on in the last couple of months.. no round or oval spots .. but more like lightish whitish coating with some lines with a definite reddish/pale yellowish center infected area.. in the way back.. on both sides of my cheeks.. I'd say it would be opposite the wisdom teeth area.. if I had wisdom teeth still..

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query. The symptoms you mention in query are indicating towards a condition known as linea alba . There can be many reasons for linea alba like cheek bite , bruxism (teeth grinding at night), tobacco chewing ,dental appliance and sharp cusps on posterior teeth. Usually its painless and benign condition ,but if become painful (as in your case ) it means severe injury to mucusa .

I would suggest you to consult dentist/oral pathologist for proper examination .Doctor may examine bite plain ,look for sharp cusps and may order biopsy if necessary to rule out other cause like leukoplakia .

Doctor may extract wisdom teeth ,grind sharp cusps , correction of appliance (if there is any) ,give mouth guard in case of bruxism and do counseling for correct bite . Sometimes minor surgery or anti fungal therapy is also required in case of leukoplakia.

For now quite smoking and chewing tobacco (if you are doing) , rinse your mouth with chlorhexidine mouthwash twice a day and rinse mouth with hydrogen peroxide (1%-2%) solution once daily .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
