Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am having strong leg & hip pain. It is when I go to bed. The pain creates restlessness. I have pin prickling irritation that only quits with time. Heat can help somewhat. I am 67. Recently came to Arizona and am staying in an RV park. I have been going swimming 5 to 6 times per week and walk 3 to 4 times per week. Am a healthy weight, do not smoke, eat a varied and balanced diet, am happily married. This pain has gradually gotten worse and is keeping me from sleeping for 2 to 4 hours a night beginning this last month and has accelerated the last three or four nights. When should I see a doctor and where do I start - GP or specialist
** Thanks for contacting with your health concern and as I'm unable to examine you directly thus following is my opinion:
1. Consult an Orthopedic surgeon regarding hip discomfort/pain since it could be because of hip osteoarthritis, AVN [avascular necrosis], DVT [deep vein thrombosis], PVD [peripheral vascular disorder] or simply because of cramps in calf [due to diabetes, calcium/salt deficiency]
PS. The symptoms have to be carefully assessed by your doctor to ensure that whether it requires immediate medical attention or long-term therapy.
