What Does Pain In The Shin Indicate?

I have been having lower leg pain in the front interior half of my shin. That pain is now better but the back of my knee is starting bothering me. Knee is stiff, slightly swollen and painful to walk on. I had a minor traffic accident about a month ago and slamed the side of that knee into the arm rest on the door. It has been numb to touch but is better now. I spend large amounts of time on my knees when working. My concern is do I a have a blood clot or clots that are now migrating? What other symptoms might I expect to confirm this?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your concern is very right. However, in the light of what you said, it does not appear to have any blood clot(s). Blood clots in the veins generally produce swelling in the whole limbs below the knee or even above. It's most one side, and it occurs mostly in people who are bed ridden more then 3 days or have any disease causing blood to clot. If you still have suspicion you can do a test called d.dimer which if negative can very confidently rule out any clot. Regarding your pain, it may be associated to your bad posture, I would advise you work on this. I would also advise you take some calcium and vitamin D supplements.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
