What Does Reddish Excrement And Stomach Pain Indicate?
hello, I had to saty home from work yesterday night due to a fever and stomach pains. This stomach pain has lasted since 3:30 P.M. yesterday until now. I have been able to defecate at times but only liquidy reddish excrement. I cannot lay down or else the pain gets worse but when i curl up in bed for the reason the pain goes away temporarily. It does eventually return however. Should I eat? I haven't eaten since yesterday morning due to these stomach apins taking away my appetite. What should I drink? What does the reddish liquid mean? Thank you

Hi,
Noted the history of fever and stomach pains, reddish liquid motion only, can not lay down as pain increases and has to be in curled up position. This is a serious problems. The reddish liquid motion indicates that this may be due to intususception meaning a part of the intestine travels inside the distal part hence causing pseudo-obstruction, the vascular component getting compressed giving red-current jelly appearance.
I would advise you the following:
- Rush to ER Standing x-ray of the abdomen.
- Clinical evaluation and examination for the lump thus formed.
- Barium enema test is diagnostic as well as therapeutic as the pressure by barium and relieve the problem.
If this fails, you will need a formal surgery hence you should stop anything orally.
