Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does Reduced Urine Output Post Removal Of Catheter Suggest?
Had UTI was given Cipro for infection. Had difficulty urinating went to ER. They installed a catheter. Saw urologist today and removed it. Still appear to be retaing urine as only little comes. Have been drinking a lot of water. Is this normal after removal? Do I still have infection.
If you are having a sensation of full bladder and urge to urinate, but little urine comes, this needs evaluation for ongoing inflammation or obstruction of urinary tract.
On other hand, you don't have such sensation and no frequent urge to urinate, this suggest inadequate fluid intake. This is especially likely if urine is concentrated or yellow coloured.
So if you do not have a sense of full bladder, and frequent urge to urinates, no need to worry- just increase fluid intake, otherwise kindly discuss with your doctor. It may take few hours after catheter removal for bladder to fill up.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
